Amita Aung-Thwin is a contemporary abstract artist from Hawaiʻi whose practice explores movement, texture, pattern and the relationship between structure and organic form. Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, she builds layered, tactile surfaces that respond to changing light and invite the viewer to pause and look more closely.

Her work is guided by curiosity and experimentation, drawing from recurring patterns in nature, movement and perception. Gold leaf appears throughout her practice, connecting contemporary material exploration with her Southeast Asian heritage and the use of gold in the art and spiritual traditions of the region.

Following artist residencies in Rishikesh, India and at Château d’Orquevaux in France, her practice has continued to expand through her current studies at Metàfora in Barcelona, where she is exploring painting alongside sculpture, sound and light. Across these forms, she is interested in how material, rhythm and perception shape the way a work is experienced.
